Muslin originally comes from Dhaka, Bangladesh, and by the 18th century, it had become the most expensive material in the world. It was so soft and light that rumours spread about Dhaka muslin being made by mermaids underwater, or magical fairies, and it became commonly referred to as "woven air". In Muslim Lady Reclining (Dhaka, 1789), Francesco Renaldil attempts to capture the beauty of this world famous material. Today, we give a nod to our Bengali heritage with our signature muslin bedding range, made in Dhaka.
